What is PDX Presents?
PDX Presents is a state of mind, a perspective on a post-pandemic scene in Portland, Oregon. What began in global lockdown has resulted in a shift in society, a deepening of the arts, and a search for meaning in an ever more chaotic world.
My name is J. Pinky. My career in entertainment began in my 20’s… a few decades back – before Clear Channel bought every music station in the country – before Live Nation acquired Ticketmaster – before rock & roll died at the hands of the corporate machine. But growing up in the 90’s, I arrived in the afterglow of the 60’s Social Revolution. Too late to be a pioneer but in time to witness some of the greats. I came of age as grunge tore its way across the country, laying waste to the pop music ideals that had been spoonfed to the masses, only to watch it too become a parody of itself over time.
It is my belief that a new era in music is emerging now, and my goal with this website, photographs, and a podcast to be released, is to apply the skills I have developed over 20+ years in the field to help tell the stories of the next generation of artists. The new gods. The musicians that will be remembered for the next 50 years, that will define this era through song and live performances, in the shadows of a world gone mad.
I hope you will join me for the adventure. Portland is just one place of many where these stories are unfolding, but it is the city I call home, and so it is the focus of this project for the foreseeable future. From hip-hop and rap, to jazz, punk, and rock, this city is host to over 300 artists that have released albums in the last 2 years alone, Yet our airwaves play the songs of New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Atlanta, London, and Chicago, as if Portland hasn’t found a sound of its own. I believe that it has, and it is my aim to shine a spotlight on the music and culture that has developed in the City of Roses, surrounded by forests, and swimming in rivers, North, East, South, and West.
We are Portland, Oregon. And this is PDXpresents.com. Thank you for watching, and I hope you enjoy the show.
